From Water To Woods Virtual Bioblitz, Month Of May

(BLOOMINGTON) – DNR officials need your help to create a bio-inventory for plants, animals, and fungi found at Monroe Lake during the month of May 2020.

No experience, identification skills, or special expertise needed – just an interest in the outdoors and a willingness to help.

  • How to participate: Download the free iNaturalist app on your smartphone and create an account, then search for and join the project “Monroe Lake: From Water to Woods (May 2020 Bioblitz).” During the month of May, visit the lands and waters around Monroe Lake, take photos of plants, animals, and fungi and upload your observations into iNaturalist (make sure you tag the project name when submitting an observation).
  • Observations must be recorded on PUBLIC lands and waters adjacent to Monroe Lake (Bloomington, Indiana) and its backwaters, which are owned by the Indiana Division of State Parks, Indiana Division of Forestry, Hoosier National Forest, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Bonus Incentive: At the end of May, all participants who upload at least 10 observations into the “Monroe Lake: From Water to Woods” project will be entered into a drawing to win a 2020 Annual Entrance Pass for Indiana State Parks.
